“In order to exercise the powers conferred under paragraph (a) paragraph (I) of Article 80 of the Constitution of India, read in accordance with paragraph (3) of that article, the President is pleased to nominate Shri Gulam Ali to the Council of States to fill the vacancy left by one of the nominated members to retire”, an announcement made by Ministry of Internal Affairs, Trade Union speak.
The move is considered significant because before Article 370 was repealed, the community had very little representation in the legislature.
The Modi government repealed Article 370 in August 2019 and split the original state into two Union Territories – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
