A JRPG Buncha Square Enix Classic Prepared for Transformation

Nintendo’s big run on the Live presentation is over, delivering rich news for games like Fire Emblem Engage and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Although the biggest announcement is BotW next part The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom—And yes official name and final release date in new trailer—Mario House also featured some fan treats from the classic Square Enix series in it.

Arguably the most attractive of the bunch — and what everyone will find the most recognizable — is Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion. One remake of the classic PSP announced in Final Fantasy VII25th anniversary in June, Crisis Core is a prequel to the 1997 JRPG that redefined the genre, and the remake will boast the usual enhanced HD visuals, a more accessible combat system, and new soundtrack arrangements. Just today was the reveal that it will launch on December 13 for the Switch (and all other consoles).

Square Enix also took this opportunity to showcase remakes of its classics Mission ahead mech strategy game that first made a comeback on the Super Famicom (the SNES system in the US). Both 1st Front Mission and Mission ahead 2—Which is officially coming to the West for the first time — are fully 3D remakes with a host of new game features, due out in November and “in 2023.” Square Enix also announced a remake of the 1999 PlayStation Mission ahead 3so Wanzer pilots will be very good in the unknown future.

Also during the live stream was the news that Theatrhythm Final Fantasy series, one Guitar HeroRhythm-like game includes many Final Fantasy characters and melodies, there will be a new sequel. Named Theatrhythm’s Last Bar LineThis new entry includes 385 songs from franchise history for you to battle through, including songs from Final Fantasy XV and Type-0. You can get your hands on it on February 16, 2023, not too far away when you remember we’re in September.
