A new day for Daniel Jones of Giants can be very short

Daniel Jones is living the good life in the tri-state area. He lives in a neighborhood in Hoboken, NJ, matching someone making $6 million a year. He also doesn’t take the long ferry/subway ride to New York to work, he just drives up the road to the New York Giants practice facility. It’s been a good life but that could all change in 2023 if his play doesn’t improve this season.

Jones is entering his fourth season as an NFL quarterback, and the Giants are giving him a fearsome vote of confidence. They have decided not to renew Jones’ contract, so the 2022 season will determine the future of the 6th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

It’s not Jones’ fault that Dave Gettelman spent 4 years building a disgusting squad. The Giants have a poor attack, a wide squad without depth and their defense is difficult. This swinging car of a football team won no more than six games in a season with Gettleman in charge.

While the Giants’ mess was put together mainly by Gettleman, the player he picked in the 2019 draft, Jones, was tipped to be the quarterback to deliver consistent victory to New York football. NFL. Instead, his on-court decision-making was poor, leading to flips and lots of bad play. His rookie season had the best touchdown with interception, 24:12, but he cleared the ball 19 times. Jones has significantly reduced his fumbles over the last two seasons – placing second in 2021 with seven – but he’s also thrown just 11 touchdowns in 2020 and 10 in 20121.

There’s a reason why, when Jones recently file Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, that no one in the coffee shop they went to bothered them. There is nothing about his play that has led to excitement or consistent wins. Let’s put that under the football helmet, along with the fact that he’s a quiet guy and fans won’t feel much for their franchise QB. However, the Giants’ best player, Saquon Barkley was unable to stay healthy and their ability to defend the pass was abysmal. In addition, in 2020 and 2021, their defense is ranked 19th and 18th respectively. It is difficult to know if Jones can cook without spices in the cupboard.

This new Giants mode, led by general manager Jon Schoen, looks poised to turn the franchise back into the competition. They picked Kayvon Thibodeaux when he slid down to pick 5th in the 2022 NFL Draft, and added Evan Neal from Alabama to help that offensive line take 7th place.

They also brought in Jon Feliciano and Mark Gloinksi to fortify the inside of the attack line. These solid moves also show that this new office has a plan. For the first time in his NFL career, Jones will enter a group chat with many people who are above average NFL players. His new head coach is Brian Daboll, who has worked wonders with Josh Allen after his first two sub-NFL seasons. Unfortunately, with a new coaching staff, Allen will work with the fifth offensive coordinator during his short tenure, but he has spent his entire career dealing with instability. Although it makes life harder for him right now, a well-thought-out plan that matches his strengths is something worth trying to shorten his learning curve.

Now, if Jones doesn’t have a career five in 2022, he’ll be in the free agent pool in 2023. While it’s hard to judge Jones’ play with so much inconsistency on the field, and its bad movements, he’s far from bluffing. If he has more time to pitch this year, he has to show he can make decisions and lead his team to something more than simply running for office. Championship every 5 years after the season. Jones better catch Daboll’s attack quickly. This new Giants mode showed how they feel about Jones’ performance by not renewing his contract or opting in for the final year.

The writing is often written on the wall for midfielders in this predicament. It’s so hard to find a quarterback in the NFL that teams have to stick with what they have and try to make it work. For Jones, that didn’t work for the Giants, and Daboll and his staff are well aware of that. Jones told Schwartz that his upcoming contract was not on his mind.

It shouldn’t. It should be Daboll’s playbook, and Allen’s tape for hours every day. Jones needs to get comfortable quickly, so although he won’t admit it to Schwartz, he can show on the pitch that the problem with the Giants isn’t him. Those are all the other players Gettleman put on the list.
