Quinta Brunson’s Favorite ABC Comedy Abbott Elementary School led all the winners Saturday at the 38th Annual Television Critics Association Awards, taking home four awards, including the prestigious show of the year award.
The awards, announced virtually after a semi-annual press tour altered in response to rising COVID-19 cases in Southern California, were chosen by members of a team of more than 200 journalists. television throughout the United States and Canada.
Abbott Elementary School won for Brunson (personal achievement in comedy), new show, achievement in comedy and show of the year. The comedy, which offers a renewal for a super-superior second season, is the only show to earn multiple wins this year. The series went into the awards with five nominations leading the way, with co-star Janelle James losing to Brunson for individual comedy.
Before TCA switched to virtual press tour, Abbott Elementary School stars James, Lisa Ann Walter and Sheryl Lee Ralph are ready to host the ceremony in person.
Other winners include This is us Mandy Moore stars for personal achievement in drama after her surprising sneak at the Emmys; By HBO Heir for achievements in TV series and Hulu’s Dopesick like the best miniseries.
