Angeline Colonia breaks records, wins two gold medals in Asian youth weightlifting

MANILA, Philippines – Angeline Colonia has broken world and Asian records in her weight division after winning two golds and one silver at the recently concluded Asian Youth and Youth Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent , Uzbekistan on Sunday.
Colonia lifted 62 kg in the Asian and world youth standard bombardment loop (61 kg) in the women’s 40 kg class while her total lift of 134 kg has reset the continental youth standard of 134 kg in total.
The 15-year-old sister of the Rio De Janeiro Olympics, Nestor Colonia won the gold medal in the recoil and jockey events, winning the silver medal (72kg) after the 73kg effort of Vietnamese Duong Thi Kim Yen.
Colonia’s refreshing victory has been added to a growing list of young Filipina weightlifting champions starring 18-year-old Asian champion Vanessa Sarno and Ramos siblings — Rosegie and Rose Jean, both Both have future medal prospects at the Olympics, according to head weightlifter Monico Puentevella.

Colonia, granddaughter of 1988 Seoul Olympic athlete Gregorio Colonia, who took over as her coach, took the lead in Duong’s 56 kg backstroke and India’s Akansha Kishor Vyavhare’s 55 kg, won the bronze medal later.
Duong won silver medal in total (129kg) and Vyavhare bronze medal (125kg).
