Apple looks to India for manufacturing of AirPods, Beats?

Apple’s iPhone assembler, Foxconn, is preparing to manufacture Beats headphones in India and hopes to eventually manufacture AirPods in the country as well, the report said, citing sources.
Luxshare Precision Industry, a Chinese supplier to the iPhone maker and its units, also plans to help Apple manufacture AirPods in India, according to the report.
However, Luxshare is currently focusing more on AirPods operations in Vietnam and will likely be slower than rivals in starting production of Apple products in India, Nikkei said.
Apple did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
The tech giant has been shifting some areas of iPhone production from China to other markets, including India, where it started manufacturing the iPhone 13 earlier this year and is also planning to install it. assemble iPad tablet. Last week, the company announced plans to manufacture the latest iPhone 14 in India.
One Bloomberg News Tuesday’s report said iPhone exports from India surpassed $1 billion in the five months from April and are expected to hit $2.5 billion in the 12 months through March 2023.
The Nikkei report said that Apple’s latest move is part of a gradual diversification from China. India and other countries like Mexico and Vietnam are increasingly critical of contract manufacturers supplying US brands amid China COVID-related shutdowns and simmering tensions between Washington and Beijing.
