Apple is working on a software update for iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max to fix an issue that causes the device’s rear camera to vibrate when used with certain third-party apps.
The update will be released next week, according to the company, signaling that it has identified a solution. The software fix will mark at least the second so far for iPhone 14. On launch day, users are required to update to iOS 16.0.1 to resolve issues related to FaceTime activation. .
The latest iPhones went on sale last Friday and some users took to social media to complain about the camera failure. The problem, which can also cause rattling noises, is caused by hardware optical image stabilization that malfunctions in some cases with third-party apps. Stabilization technology is designed to change the camera system to compensate for iPhone movement, helping to avoid blurry photos.
Users have complained about bugs that interfere with camera features in social networking apps like SnapchatTikTok, Instagram and Facebook, but it doesn’t seem to affect Apple’s pre-installed camera capabilities. Snap Inc., maker of Snapchat, said Monday that it is “working directly with Apple” to resolve the issue after receiving reports from users. TikTok and Meta Platforms Inc., the owners of Instagram and Facebook, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The new camera system on the iPhone 14 Pro, which includes a 48-megapixel sensor for the main lens for the first time, is one of the major upgrades to this year’s device. The phone also has a software interface at the top of the device called Dynamic Island, which works with an updated camera cutout to display information like map directions or AirPods status.
So far, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max seem to be the most successful products in the lineup. Shoppers lined up at Apple retail stores in search of the device over the weekend, and the device was sold out in many places. Consumers looking to purchase these models through Apple’s website will have to wait at least October for delivery.
