Artist Omaha donates tattoo money to organizations that protect abortion rights
OMAHA, Neb (KMTV) – There are many reasons why people get tattoos.
Some tattoos are personal and some are meant to send a message.
“I realize the hanger represents one thing about abortion but more importantly, it’s a choice tattoo. You choose to get a tattoo just as you should choose your own reproductive rights. You should choose to be able to do whatever you want with your body,” says Johnna McCreary.
Johnna McCreary is a tattoo artist and Co-Owner of Liquid Courage tattoo parlor in Omaha.
McCreary, like thousands of women who took to the streets to protest the Supreme Court’s decision, decided she would turn her anger into action.
“I walked in here and Martin, who was doing the tattoos today, I said what are you doing today? Well, I’m tattooing everyone. I said you would save me some time because you would put a coat hanger on me because I am so angry about what is happening right now,”
On Tuesday, Liquid Tattoo hosted Women’s Flash Day Picks.
People can walk in and claim one of the hangers and all proceeds from the tattoos go to the National Abortion Foundation.
The tattoos themselves, though simple, carry an unmistakable message that anger will last as long as women are not allowed to choose what to do with their bodies.
“This is not about good or beautiful, but about rage. As we look at these tattoos, I want you to remember this. I want you to remember that it’s okay and you have every right to be angry at what’s going on in the world,” McCreary said.
