At least 46 people found dead in a tractor-trailer in San Antonio
At least 46 people were found dead in a trailer in San Antonio on Monday. Three people have been detained for the incident, described as a “mass casualty event,” which has now been identified as a federal investigation.
Based on ABC News, 16 more people, 12 adults and 4 children, were transported to hospitals in the area. The San Antonio Fire Department said the victims suffered from heat exhaustion. Officials found that there was no water or air conditioning in the back of the trailer and those transported to the hospital were described as “hot to the touch.”
The Related press reported that a city worker was alerted to the situation after hearing a cry for help just before 6 p.m. Officers arrived and found a body outside the trailer and an open gate to the trailer.
Police Chief William McManus said the items found inside the trailer were suspected to be part of a conspiracy to smuggle migrants into the US. The US Department of Homeland Security is currently leading the investigation into the incident.
Governor of Texas Greg Abbott took to Twitter to talk about the situation and blame President Joe Biden.
He speak,
“These deaths are on Biden. They are the result of his deadly open door policies. They show the deadly consequences of his refusal to enforce the law.”
