AUBURN, Ala. – It was another impressive performance at Jane B. Moore Field for the Auburn No. 21 softball team (25-9, 4-2 SECOND) as Denver Bryant won 2-1 over Missouri (20-14, 1 -8 SECOND) Monday evening.
Bryant secured Auburn a series pass for the first time in school history in Missouri and the first time the team wiped out the 2023 SEC vehicle.
“All I can do is make sure I have a base for my teammates,” Bryant said. “We can capitalize on this momentum and keep going, keep winning. We can go as far as we want.”
Locked in a draw at the end of game seven, Aubrie Lisenby sparked the rally with a one-on-one walk. Bri Ellis put the front man in position with a single strike over the left flank. On her second pitch of the bat, Bryant hit the singles into the right-court to beat croucher Abbey Smith in a second straight walk for Auburn.
Head coach Mickey Dean said: “Tonight, you saw two good teams play against each other. “Our kids definitely fought. I challenged them for the last two innings to play with more confidence. As each player starts to get more confident, good things keep happening.”
The Tigers delivered seven hits during Monday’s finale. Senior Lindsey Garcia hit a major milestone with the 100th hit of her college career. Jessie Blaine took advantage with a sacrificial flight to center right to give Auburn the lead in the first half and pick Auburn’s other RBI in the contest.
Making another strong performance in the circle, Maddie Penta (12-4) went far. Penta hit a shot on target, making way for Payton Jackson to run home in the third round. Penta hit out eight and put out four walks. After a series of 10 consecutive matches being pulled back, Penta continued to lock down the game to create a late opportunity for the Tigers.
Auburn returned to play midweek on Wednesday, walking to Birmingham to face Samford. The first pitch on ESPN+ was placed at 6 p.m. CT.
