Damien Chazelle is back, baby. After a four-year hiatus, La La Land The director has revealed the first trailer of what he’s been up to all along: Babylonseems like a great tribute to the magic of filmmaking.
Before we go through the movie, someone snorted at the stars of the Paramount logo as if they were cocaine. Someone turned out to be Margot Robbie. Clearly gay, Robbie fantasizes with Diego Calva, both of whom admit that they want to be bigger stars than their lives on the silver screen.
“It’s written in the stars!” Robbie exclaimed. “I to be a star.”
Afterward, Babylon trailer explodes into The great Gatsby-alike ratio. Even Tobey Maguire appeared, playing the super sweaty, party-loving Charlie Chaplin. People are dancing in chic clubs, wearing their best outfits, attending movie premieres and having a good time. “I just want people to party forever,” Robbie said.
As always with Chazelle, there are plenty of epic musical performances at first sight. After the fun series of Whiplash and La La Land, the director outdid himself once again with a big time band blowing the trombon and trumpeting the screaming party attendees. Justin Hurwitz, who worked with Chazelle on his biggest traits, returns to score Babylon.
However, there are dozens of movies about movies, so Babylon really about? While mixing fiction with real life, Babylon will follow the transition from silent to talkative, with Margot Robbie being one of the rising stars at the time. Brad Pitt also acts as a director/producer, he travels around Hollywood with big ambitions.
With Pitt, Robbie, Maguire and Calva, BabylonThe stacked cast includes Jean Smart, Olivia Wilde, Katherine Waterston, Max Minghella, Spike Jonze, and Margot Robbie looks, Samara Weaving.
It’s worth noting that there are some controversial characters in the cast. Pitt is currently shot after allegedly assaulting ex-wife Angelina Jolie, who allege he acted violently towards their children. Moreover, the film also stars Jeff Garlin, who allegedly “extremely abusive verbally and emotionally” on his ABC set The Goldbergs. However, filming began before either of these allegations came to light.
Babylon marks Chazelle’s fourth major feature film, following the 2018 Neil Armstrong biopic The first man has been released. Between his two most recent feature films, he also released The Eddya jazz drama, on Netflix.
Babylon will open in select theaters on December 23, expanding everywhere on January 6.
