Biden Accuses Twitter of Spewing Lies Across the World as Elon Musk Rolls Out Twitter Blue Subscription – Featured Bitcoin News
Elon Musk has begun rolling out the $7.99 a month Twitter Blue subscription service. However, US President Joe Biden is concerned that the billionaire has bought a social media platform “lies around the world.” Saying “there are no editors in America anymore,” Biden insisted: “How do we expect the kids to be able to understand what’s at stake?”
Twitter rolls out $7.99/month Blue subscription
Tesla CEO and Twitter boss Elon Musk has started rolling out the Twitter Blue subscription service. Users on the social media platform began noticing Friday that they could sign up for Twitter Blue verification for $7.99 a month.
“Starting today, we’re adding great new features to Twitter Blue,” reads a statement on Twitter. The service is currently available in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK
The announcement lists three “coming soon” features for Twitter Blue subscribers. First, the company explains that Blue subscribers will only see “half of the ads” and they will be “much better ads.” The social media giant detailed: “Since you’re supporting Twitter in its fight against bots, we’ll reward you with half of the ads and make them twice as relevant.” In addition, Blue subscribers can “post longer videos” and they will have a “Rating Priority for Quality Content”. Twitter builds:
Your content will be prioritized in replies, mentions, and searches. This helps reduce the visibility of phishing, spam, and bots.
One user asked Musk when the Twitter Blue subscription service will be available in India. He replied: “Hopefully less than a month.”
Musk also revealed Saturday:
Twitter will soon add the ability to attach long-form text to tweets, ending the absurdity of notepad screenshots… Next comes creator monetization for all forms of content.
Responding to a comment about YouTube giving creators 55% of ad revenue, Musk said: “We can beat that.” In another tweet, the Tesla CEO addressed the inefficiencies of search on Twitter, stating: “Fixing search is a high priority.”
President Biden Worried About Lying Too Much on Twitter
US President Joe Biden shared his concerns Friday about what Twitter is becoming after Musk take over social media platform, Reuters reported. Twitter laid off half of its workforce on Friday, but the company says that Smaller cuts in the team in charge of preventing the spread of misinformation.
Biden is quoted saying:
Now what are we all worried about: Elon Musk goes out and buys a costume to send – it goes viral around the world… No more editors in America. There is no editor. How do we expect children to understand what is at stake?
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters that Biden has been clear about the need to reduce hate speech and misinformation. “That belief extends to Twitter, it extends to Facebook and any other social media platform where users can spread misinformation,” she said.
Last week, the White House deleted a tweet after Twitter added conflicting context to its statement. The tweet posted by the White House on October 1 read: “Seniors are getting the biggest increase in Social Security checks in 10 years under President Biden’s leadership.” It was removed the next day after Twitter added context indicating that the increase was tied to a 1972 law requiring an automatic increase based on changes in the cost of living. According to the description below the caption, “Context is written by people using Twitter and appears when rated as helpful by others.”
A White House official told Politico that the tweet was deleted for “incomplete points.” Confirming the tweet’s deletion, Jean-Pierre similarly stated in a Wednesday press conference that the claim was incomplete.
