NEW DELHI: BJP Vice Presidential Candidate Prospects Jagdeep Dhankhar received a boost on Sunday as the two regional powers that are not part of the NDA – BJD and AIADMK – officially declared their support for him. The BJD made the announcement shortly after the call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the head of the party and Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik who was one of the first to also return. NDAPresident Droupadi’s choice Murmu.
AIADMK followed suit, announcing after a meeting of MLAs in Chennai that they would support both Murmu and Dhankhar. Although Dhankhar was elected as the NDA’s VP candidate on Saturday, the BJD appears to be waiting for the opposition to decide on the nominee before accepting the call.
The BJD led by Naveen Patnaik, which dropped its weight following the presidential selection of NDA Droupadi Murmu, on Sunday announced its support for its VP candidate, Jagdeep Dhankhar. The BJD’s decision came minutes after Prime Minister Modi phoned Odisha CM to seek his support, Debabrata Mohapatra reported. It should be noted that in 2017, while it endorsed Ram Nath Kovind of the NDA as president, it supported opposition candidate Gopalkrishna Gandhi for the VP position.
