Blue Jays put George Springer in IL 10 days with elbow arthritis
The Toronto Blue Jays currently top the American League Wild Card standings but only have a two-game advantage over the Tampa Bay Rays and Seattle Mariners.

On Saturday, the Blue Jays put Springer on the 10-day injury list with right elbow inflammation.
Springer is said to have been dealing with elbow pain for several weeks. According to the team, he will receive an anti-inflammatory shot but is expected to miss more than 10 days of action.

Blue Jays recalls Otto Lopez to fill Springer’s place in the active list.
The 23-year-old has appeared in just one big game this season. Lopez appeared as a defensive substitute on June 21 against the Chicago White Sox. Last season, he also appeared in just one game, striking with his lone shot.
Through 66 games for Single-A Dunedin and Triple-A Buffalo, Lopez has Polish .248 / .338 / .391 with three home runs, 27 RBIs and 10 stolen bases.
