Brazil head coach Tite leaves role after leaving World Cup for Croatia | Football news
Brazil head coach Tite has left his role after they were knocked out in the quarter-finals of the World Cup at the hands of Croatia.
Croatia stuns five-time world champion with a dramatic 4-2 victory in the penalty shootout at the Education City Stadium for a spot in the World Cup semi-finals as the hotly contested favorites were eliminated after the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Croatia, who needed two penalty shootouts and an extra-time win to reach the 2018 final, kept their cool as Brazil’s Marquinhos and Rodrygo failed to convert, while Nikola Vlasic, Lovro Majer, Luka Modric and Orsic Complete a series of perfect penalties, guaranteeing progress to the final four games of the tournament. “We eliminated the most popular candidates,” coach Zlatko Dalic said afterward.
Tite, who has been in charge since 2016 after replacing Dunga, said in February that he always intended to step down after this tournament.
He said, “Like I said, my cycle is over. I said that over a year and a half ago. I keep my word. We shouldn’t make up stories like I said a year and a half ago. Yes other great professionals can take my place. There may be factors to analyze but the cycle is over.”
