Dune: Ornithopter Assault was originally developed for the GameBoy Advance with gameplay focusing on iconic ornithopters from Frank Herbert’s Dune universe. Unfortunately the game was folded back in 2002 with most of the game done and all missions complete.
Here is the original synopsis of the game (via unseen64):
“Trained by Gurney Halleck, the House of Atreides’ most effective and most honored officer, you will become an expert in piloting and combating aircraft organizations. Engage in an all-out war for the spice, you must surpass all your flying skills to survive the fall of the House of Atreides and help Paul and the Fremen in their battle for Arrakis. “
The game will feature more than 20 different missions, including escort missions, guard duty, destroy troops and vehicles, capture vehicles and spice supplies. It also includes five solo and multiplayer modes using a link cable.
Now, however, the game has been transformed into something else… even though it sounds quite familiar.
“You are Ethan Lancashire, one of Elland Inc.’s best fighter pilots,” reads the game Description of Steam. “During more than 20 dangerous missions, you will fly advanced flying machines that can move, spin and glide, and equipped with a variety of weapons and gadgets, equipped according to the requirements of the mission. Weapons can be set to lock or target manually.
Converting Arrakis to become Elland, the game looks almost identical to the original. Even the chapters are redesigned to be simply “predator”.
“As an accomplished cannibal pilot, protect the Gatherers as they harvest the precious Crystal from the remote desert world of Elland from the evil forces of the Trafford Corporation.”
Games available for Download now via Steamwhere the store page also gives its own account of Elland’s history: “In 2001, development began on an ambitious Game Boy Advance game based on a popular franchise. Perhaps. the project was a bit too ambitious, because it was canceled in 2002 and the team left.Twenty years later, this game has finally seen the light of day, albino without a franchise license. original commercial. Experience the game now in this enhanced simulation.”
