Cavallo Criticizes Casillas For Deleting Twitter Post ‘I’m Gay’
Australia’s first openly gay player, Josh Cavallo, has criticized Iker Casillas as “too disrespectful” and joked about appearing after a post on the Twitter account of the former Spain and Real goalkeeper. Madrid says he is gay.
A post on Casillas’ official account on Sunday said: “I hope you respect me: I’m gay” to which former Barcelona defender Carles Puyol replied: “It’s time to tell his story. us, Iker.” Post about Casillas. the account was later deleted and he said his account was hacked and that he apologized to his fans and the LGBT community, as well as Puyol for what he said was an “awkward joke “.
Cavallo criticized the Spanish duo for joking about the issue.
“@IkerCasillas and @Carles5puyol joking and mocking while playing in football is disappointing,” Cavallo, who became the first A-League player to become gay last year, said on Twitter.
“It is a difficult journey that any LGBTQ + ppl have to go through. To witness my role models and legends in the game makes for a joy to come out and my community is no exception,” Cavallo said.
Casillas and Puyol did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The Spanish press said Casillas’ first Twitter post could be in response to speculation about his private life after he split from Sara Carbonero last year.
