Commitment Analysis: Rivals250 DL Monteque Rhames chooses South Carolina
South CarolinaThe recruitment class of 2023 got a big boost from the commitment of Monteque Rhames. Rivals250’s line of defense beyond Sumter, SC announced its commitment to the Gamecocks on Saturday night, choosing them over the likes of Alabama, Georgia, Michiganand NC State.
WHAT THE GAMECOCKS ARE GETTING…
Rhames is as strong as a bull and has a skill set that allows him to play all matches. He is a better defensive player with good speed and balance around the edge. Rhames have a frame that can hold more weight. He can grow to 270-280 pounds and move inward, where his agility and strength can create a mismatch. Rhames did well at the high school level, quickly maneuvering the attacking player in front of him to get into the backcourt. He has quite long arms and he knows how to use them to get past attacking guides. Rhames is not exactly a space athlete but he can play outside the defense and keep his play from being around him.

WHY IT’S BIG FOR CAROLINA MEN…
Shane Beamer and his staff are helping the Gamecocks get off to a solid start in their 2023 defense. Rhames is a key South Carolina target as an in-state prospect and he will be able to replace some of the elite talent that could leave the NFL after the upcoming season. His commitment propels this class of South Carolina players into the top 35 of the team rankings.
South Carolina will also look to Rhames to help recruit two other Rivals250 leads in the state, Xzavier McLeod and Markee Anderson. McLeod doesn’t plan to announce his commitment anytime soon, but Anderson will commit tomorrow.
