The Grand Theft Auto VI Leaks are big news for all sorts of reasonsbut one of the more interesting talking points has been a resurgence of a discussion about how “bad” a game can look in public.

Like I said the other dayalthough there have been and always will be idiots who say the dumbest things, I think most normal people, when faced with scenes like the ones we’ve seen since GTA VIthink “tidy” or “wow it’s great to see sausages made like that”.

Of course, part of that fascination stems from the fact that we almost never get to see the big games in this state! And if GTA leaks do nothing else, I hope it can at least help normalize the idea (at least among the wider public) that, no, these games don’t look “bad” when they’re made, they’re simply surname is being worked.

Following the leak and wider discussion of the game’s visuals during development, several other developers and studios have come forward and share footage of what of them the game looks like soon. And all is great, every last frame of it.

Before we go any further, know that some of these comments you’re about to see are referencing the Tweet you see above, which was Very Bad, and which—alongside the GTA leak itself—prompted a lot of developers to drop (or dig up) a lot of this footage.

First up is Control’s lead designer Paul Ehreth, who earlier today tweeted:

Since the graphics are the first thing perfected in a video game, and CONTROL has won many awards for outstanding graphics, here’s the shot from the start of development 🙂

CONTROL – Early Production Scene (Finished Graphics)

Also mocking the “first thing done” tweet is the group behind Cult of the Lamb:

Next, we have Frozen Synapsefor a year before becoming one of the most important strategy games of all time is a BBC Micro adventure game:

What are these Sea of Thieves looks like in 2014 (it’s four years before final release):

One of the funniest/best was shared by Immortality of Sam Barlow, Who speakthis is what IMMORTALITY looks like in the first 2 years as we focus on balancing AI and fighting gameplay”:

Here’s what that scene looks like in the finished game:

In addition to developers sharing their own work, here are some more notable (and rare) examples of studios sharing scenes in development:
