Covid: World Bank president nominee Ajay Banga tests positive for Covid-19 in Delhi | India News
NEW DELHI: USA nominated for World Bank President, American Indian Ajay Bangawho arrived in Delhi for a two-day visit on Thursday, tested positive for Covid-19 during a routine check-up, according to an embassy spokesman.
Banga was scheduled to meet the Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well as finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. A statement on Friday morning said his meeting with the Union finance minister had been cancelled.
A spokesperson for the US Embassy said Banga remains asymptomatic and in compliance with local guidelines he is in isolation.
Banga has tested positive on arrival in Delhi, even though he has conducted multiple tests for Covid A spokesman for the US Embassy said during his visit and tested negative before departing for India.
Banga’s visit to New Delhi is the end of a three-week global listening tour that began in Africa before moving on to Europe, Latin America and Asia.
