NEW DELHI: Acknowledging technical glitches in the 2022 University General Admission Test (CUET-UG) exam at some centres, the chair of the University Grants Committee (UGC) said on Sunday some exams have also been canceled or postponed due to reports of vandalism.

Meanwhile, the National Examinations Authority (NTA) has extended the General University Entrance Examination (CUET-UG) 2022 to August 28, 2022.

Candidates affected by last week’s cancellation due to technical glitches will now be adjusted for this fourth phase.

In a similar announcement on Sunday, the NTA said that new admission cards would be issued to these applicants.

With 53 centers out of 489 closed since Saturday, the test experienced no disruption due to technical issues on Sunday.

Phase 3 of the entrance exam on August 17, 18, 2022 will be carried out according to the schedule previously announced to candidates.

Saying that CUET-UG was a giant exercise with tests performed on 61 subjects in 13 languages, M Jagadesh Kumar, president, UGC on Friday said that the process in place has been engineered to note that the sanctity of the exams and the interests of the students are paramount.

Kumar acknowledged the hiccups and said staff at the centers should be more empathetic towards students.

However, he raised another concern.

“Due to technical problems in some centers, the test had to be rescheduled. At some centers, center staff should have shown more empathy for students. There are also reports and signs of vandalism in the process. The NTA immediately took action and canceled and postponed exams in centers that witnessed such a possibility. Strict action will be taken against anyone involved in intentionally sabotaging the process,”

The NTA in its announcement said that in phase two, the exam scheduled for August 4-6 has been postponed at some centers for administrative and technical reasons.

“Earlier, we announced that the exams will be conducted from August 12 to 14. The NTA has also offered an option for affected applicants to choose dates other than these in case the schedule doesn’t suit them,” said Sadhana Parashar, Senior Director of NTA.

According to the NTA, 15,811 candidates requested a different date from August 12-14. Similarly, many candidates contacted the NTA asking not to schedule their exam between August 12-14 because of a series The festivals are falling on this time. In addition, many candidates requested a change of date or city because the cities allotted to them during Phase II (August 4 to 6) did not suit them.

With 14.9 thousand registrations, CUET is currently the second largest entrance exam in the country, surpassing the average 90,000 registrations of JEE-Mains.

On Thursday, the exam’s first shift was canceled at several centers across 17 states, while the second case was canceled at all 489 centers. On Friday, the exam was canceled at 50 centers.

Kumar said that the cancellation of the test in some centers was done in the best interests of the students.

“NTA is constantly communicating with students via email, text, and voicemail to keep them informed of changes and further attention is being made in this regard. A special Email id has been created to receive and address student queries and complaints,” he said, adding that more teachers in the school are being deployed for them. have more experience in treating students with empathy.
