Daniil Medvedev and his wife Daria become parents of a baby girl

Daniil Medvedev and his wife Daria Medvedeva welcomed their first child. The Russian tennis star took to social media to announce that his wife gave birth to a baby girl on Friday and posted an adorable photo of the newborn.

Medvedev joins the likes of Rafael Nadal and Gael Monfils in the role of father, who also recently welcomed their babies into the world. Nadal and his wife Maria became parents to a baby boy last week, while Monfils and his wife, fellow tennis superstar Elina Svitolina, become a parent for a girl on Saturday.

Medvedev made the announcement via Instagram and is in Nice, France with his family, as seen by his post.

“October 14, 2022. Welcome to the world of girls,” Medvedev captioned his post.

Medvedev and his wife were married in September 2018 and the couple reside in Monte Carlo. Daria is a regular attendee of the Russian team’s matches on tour and is often in the player’s box to support him.

His announcement of the good news on Saturday drew congratulatory messages from many of his tennis tour colleagues, including Holger Rune, Karen Khachanov and Elena Vesnina.

“Welcome to the club dad,” Khachanov commented on Medvedev’s Instagram post.

Daniil Medvedev’s last appearance on tour was at the Astana Open last week, where he abruptly retired midway through his semi-final against Novak Djokovic citing a lead injury. He has already qualified for the ATP Finals but is uncertain if he will play in Turin due to a recent injury.

Daniil Medvedev received defeat because he suddenly retired at the Astana Open. However, the US Open champion 2021 disclosure after the game he feared he might have missed months of tennis instead of just a few weeks had he continued to play.

He then said that if he beat Djokovic in the semi-finals, he would withdraw before the final.

“If I play one more set, I can do it, but I might miss half a year instead of a month. So I really don’t know what is fair. If I win, I won’t. play the final,” Medvedev said similarly during his post-match press conference.

Medvedev has plenty of points to defend before the season ends as he reached the finals of both the Paris Masters and the ATP Finals last year. He lost to Djokovic and Alexander Zverev in those finals respectively. He is currently ranked 4th in the ATP Rankings.
