Bungie Senior Visual Designer Signy Davis recently shared a blistering message on Twitter asking her company, along with the gaming industry as a whole, to greatly support transgender holistic healthcare.

Davis, who joined Bungie in early 2021 and design Fate 2trans pride symbolcalls Premera consistently rejects gender-affirmation surgery as “dehumanizing,” even if her overall experience as a transgender woman at Bungie has been positive.

“I’m tired of seeking care and receiving injuries,” Davis wrote. “Bungie and industry need to work together now to ensure equal treatment and healthcare for transgender and transgender people. This should be a priority. This is an opportunity for Bungie and the industry to demonstrate that its transgender and multi-gender employees matter, listen, and take action to combat this blatant discrimination.”

The health insurance industry’s continued discrimination against transgender and gender-diverse people is actively harming myself and Bungie employees. Bungie and the industry need to do more and must make this a priority.

I have spent the last two years of my life battling “aesthetic-only” denials of sex-affirmation surgery, including a recent refusal to correct the surgery on June 2, because of my actions. Premera’s ongoing discrimination and Bungie’s lack of priorities and actions. Premera and other health insurers nationwide have been and continue to dehumanize transgender and transgender people in search of life-saving care. I have the honor of living in one of the best states in the country for transnational health care, but myself and many others constantly struggle to be treated fairly and equally.

I believe in Bungie’s commitment to improving our inclusion, diversity and equity. This commitment is reflected in the kindness, professionalism and friendship I have shown since my first day on the job. I want to grow at Bungie and become the defining job of a career. But I can’t while I’m actively fighting for my life. I cannot hope for my future while our health insurance continues to negate my humanity.

I know many people at Bungie are concerned about this issue and are doing their best to correct it. I thank you for the open and ongoing conversations I have had and hope to continue to have with Bungie HR. But major coverage gaps and repeated efforts by the health insurance industry to eradicate transgender people are actively harming me and my colleagues now, today. I’m tired of seeking care and hurting instead. I realize this is a complex and multi-layered issue, but I hope to see a change soon. Bungie and industry need to work together now to ensure equal treatment and healthcare for transgender and transgender people.

This should be a priority.

This is an opportunity for Bungie and the industry to demonstrate that their transgender and multi-gender employees matter, listen and act to combat this blatant discrimination.

Lives are at stake.

In hope and kindness,

Kotaku contacted both Bungie and Sony for more information about their efforts to provide workers with more comprehensive healthcare, but did not receive a response prior to publication.

Medical procedures such as sex determination surgery are often considered life-saving because of the way they improve the health of people with gender dysphoria, which is damage caused by someone’s mismatched gender identity. with the sex they were assigned at birth. One recent research of the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health found that sex-determination surgeries contributed to a 42 percent reduction in psychological distress and a 44 percent reduction in suicidal ideation.

Not only that, merely existing as transgender is only becoming more dangerous in the United States thanks to the proliferation of transgender people. fascist, anti-conversion law nationwide. While material gains can affect a company’s bottom line, the time for a “think and pray” approach to LGBTQ+ liberation is quickly coming to an end. We need to see more from these supportive-looking recruiters than some hashtags in the game or Twitter because, as Davis notes at the end of her call to action, life is at stake.
