Early layoff? Google Warns Employees With “Blood In The Streets”: Report

Early layoff? Google warns employees with 'blood in the streets': Report

Google is not alone in restricting hiring.

Google executives are said to have put their employees on notice and warned that layoffs were imminent if the results were not looked up.

The company will have an “overall check on sales performance and overall productivity” and that if next quarter’s results are “not looked up, there will be blood on the road”, employees working in the sales department Google Cloud customers say they have been alerted by senior executives. The warning was first reported by Insider and later cited by others, including The New York Post.

Employees are worried about layoffs after the search engine quietly extended its hiring freeze this month without giving notice.

Earlier this month, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, said he was not satisfied with the performance of many employees. According to Pichai, productivity at Google is lower than it should be.

The company’s earnings for the second quarter of 2022 were lower than expected, as was the case for the first quarter.

The search giant has started a new initiative called ‘Simple Sprint’ in an effort to increase productivity. Mr Pichai called on employees to “create a culture more focused on mission”.

Mr Pichai has stated that the company will reduce hiring and investment until 2023, pushing employees to work with more urgency and “hungry more” than “on sunny days”.

Google is not alone in restricting hiring.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO and founder of Facebook’s parent company Meta, has also made it clear that the company will part ways with employees who don’t perform as expected.

Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal also informed employees of the hiring freeze in an announcement earlier this year, citing a recent lag in revenue and growth targets.
