Emmys 2022: Jimmy Kimmel apologizes to Quinta Brunson for the bit of humor that stole her moment

Jimmy Kimmel apologized to Quinta Brunson after receiving backlash for “ruining” the screenwriter’s Emmys acceptance speech with a Poorly thought of a little bit of humour.

Appears on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday, Brunson took to the stage as Kimmel was delivering her opening monologue to the crowd – cutting him off as she entered.

“You know, you’re a little early for your interview. It was after the commercial,” the late-night host told Brunson.

She replied, “I know, but actually I have a little favor to ask. So you know how you won an Emmy, you only have 45 seconds to give an acceptance speech, Isn’t that a lot of time? And then you get less time because someone makes a goofy comedy that goes on a little too long?”

The Emmy winner then playfully asked Kimmel if she could use the time left in his monologue to wrap up her acceptance speech from Monday.

After the joke, the duo sat down and Kimmel took the time to schedule Monday’s Emmys events right away – apologizing to Brunson in the process.

“I wanted to explain this to anyone who might be confused by this,” Kimmel said.

“It was a silly comedy that we thought was going to be funny. I lost, and then I drank too much, and I had to be dragged off stage. And then people got upset.

“They say I stole your moment, and maybe I did. I’m so sorry if I did – I’m sorry me do really do it. And the last thing I want to do is make you sad because I think about you too much, and I think you know it. I hope you know that.”

Brunson accepted Kimmel’s apology and shelved the film, saying, “Honestly I had a good time, like I won my first Emmy!

The late-night host presented the award for Outstanding Writer for a Comedy Series with Will Arnett, who pretended to drag Kimmel “drunk” on stage, telling the audience that Kimmel “was hooked on a glass of skinny margarita ” after losing the Series Talk Variety award to John Oliver.

When Brunson stepped onto the stage to accept her award, she jokingly tried to get the talk show host off the floor and said, “Jimmy, wake up. I won!” but he didn’t budge.

Many people took to Twitter to express their displeasure at Kimmel’s actions.

“If #QuintaBrunson overtakes #JimmyKimmel who really made headlines the day she won an Emmy isn’t a metaphor for what it means to be WOC [Woman of Colour] in the world of white people, I don’t know,” one person tweeted.

Another added: “Jimmy Kimmel owes Quinta an apology but the mess is every picture of her accepting the award has his butt in it. White men really can’t stand it.”
