Epidemiological model of monkeypox virus
The epidemiological pattern of monkeypox outbreaks in many continents resembles early AIDS cases. Most cases affect men who have had intercourse with other men. However, the researchers warn that the emergence of monkeypox will only occur in this community. In previous outbreaks, this spread frequently occurred from infected children to caregivers. The monkeypox virus is spread by direct skin-to-skin contact. The authors stress that current evidence suggests that sexual transmission contributes to this pandemic. To explore the epidemiology of this monkeypox outbreak, they requested further observational studies, surveys, and continued surveillance.
