Evaluation of smallpox outbreaks in monkeys by NIH experts

Lessons learned from public health responses to HIV and COVID-19 can help guide responses to the current monkeypox outbreak. Experts from the National Institutes of Health voiced their opinions in an editorial posted on New England Journal of Medicine.

Anthony S. Fauci, MD, and H. Clifford Lane, MD, Associate Director of Clinical Research and Special Projects, Talk about a Case Series (JP Thornhill et al.), Talk about a Million Case Series Evidence and prognosis of 528 monkeypox patients from 16 countries on five continents.

‘Ensuring monkeypox treatment and effective distribution of monkeypox vaccine while pursuing studies on their security is an issue for public health and the sciences.’

Epidemiological model of monkeypox virus

The epidemiological pattern of monkeypox outbreaks in many continents resembles early AIDS cases. Most cases affect men who have had intercourse with other men. However, the researchers warn that the emergence of monkeypox will only occur in this community. In previous outbreaks, this spread frequently occurred from infected children to caregivers. The monkeypox virus is spread by direct skin-to-skin contact. The authors stress that current evidence suggests that sexual transmission contributes to this pandemic. To explore the epidemiology of this monkeypox outbreak, they requested further observational studies, surveys, and continued surveillance.

Doctor. Fauci and Lane also compared the causes of each disease and treatments for COVID-19, HIV/AIDS, and smallpox in monkeys. Fortunately, there are diagnostic tools, vaccinations, and remedies for smallpox in monkeys. They conclude that ensuring an equitable, effective distribution of these existing countermeasures while at the same time conducting thorough clinical research to gather additional information on safety and ideal application Theirs is a problem for the medical and scientific professions.
