Exclusive video shows the fatal shooting of an officer involved in the shooting of the St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV) – News 4 has obtained an exclusive video of a Officer-related shooting killed a teenager St. Louis.

Police said 16-year-old Darryl Ross had run away from police and was reaching for a gun when he was shot by officers.

“He ran. What we were trained to do was shout ‘police! stop!’ and he kept going,” said Lieutenant John Green of the St Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD).

Family spokeswoman Anastasia Syes said: “He ran because he was scared.

Ross’ family believes the teenager was wrongfully killed and that both officers should be suspended from duty without pay.

Syes said: “Murdered, over-processed by the police. “The problem is that he didn’t pull his gun at the police. He didn’t shoot or even aim to draw his gun at the police.”

The fatal shooting happened shortly after 11:30 p.m. at a Shell gas station at the intersection of North Florissant and St. Louis. Investigators have refused to release the full nine-minute video to the public, citing an ongoing investigation.

News 4 received two clips of the deadly shooting from a gas station surveillance camera. The first clip shows Ross running away from the police. The second video shows him reaching for an object on the ground. Police said he was trying to get a gun. Ross’s loved ones disagree.

“It’s too much force for a child lying down and you’re standing on top of him. You may have spoiled him. You may have grabbed him. The gun is on the ground,” Syes said.

“I observed a gun. Subject resisted, and the officer drew his weapon and used deadly force, that’s what I observed,” said Lieutenant Green.

“The mother really wanted me to bring awareness that the police need better training. She admits that her child has a gun. She also admitted that he was a good kid,” Syes said.

According to police, officers surveyed the gas station that night as part of a drug operation. Police said Ross sold drugs, but the family said otherwise.

Syes said: “There is no clear evidence in that video that money or any drugs were exchanged.

News 4 also learned that the SLMPD showed the entire surveillance video to a group of local ministers. Dr. Linden Bowie was one of the missionary members.

“It was a nasty video. Whenever you witness a life captured in its own film, it’s upsetting,” Bowie said. “I don’t necessarily think I should be shown in public.”

On Tuesday, the city coroner’s office updated News 4 on the status of Ross’ autopsy results. Police have not disclosed how many shots were fired.

“The Darryl Ross case is not over yet. Ashley Weekes of the Office of Medical Examiners says it takes about two to three months to complete the death certificate and autopsy report. “Once the autopsy report is completed and the case is closed, I must be allowed to release the case because it is a homicide.”

“There are a lot of loopholes and unanswered questions that the police really need to answer in this case,” Syes said.

Ross’ funeral is set for this weekend.

St. Public Schools. Louis confirmed that he attended Vashon High School.

The status of the two officers involved is still unknown.

Mayor Tishaura Jones viewed the video and a spokesperson released the following statement:

By releasing videos to families, community stakeholders, and the press, the Department of Public Safety is making information available to the public while protecting the integrity of the ongoing investigation. Community leaders have noted that this is a big step forward for the city and is consistent with the mayor’s commitment to community transparency surrounding this incident.

As a mother of a teenage son, Mayor Jones recognizes the tragic circumstances that led to Darryl Ross’ loss of life are all too familiar to young people across our city, which is why. She remains committed to creating safe places and good opportunities for our young people. She has seen the video and is awaiting the progress of the investigation.
