Exclusive! We were both wearing seat belts, says Vaibhavi’s fiancé Jay Gandhi

Actress Vaibhavi Upadhyayawho died in a car accident on Tuesday, engaged to Jay Gandhi, a businessman. The two were on their way to travel in Himachal Pradesh when their car had an accident. Jay survived with a few injuries, but he suffered a concussion and has yet to come to terms with the tragedy. During a brief conversation, he said, “There is a perception that you are speeding on the road, but that is not the case. Our car stopped and waited for the truck to pass. I don’t want to say much, but I want to make sure people don’t think we’re not wearing seat belts or speeding.”

We also spoke with Ankit Upadhyaya, Vaibhavi’s brother. He also shared: “Vaibhavi and Jay love hiking and mountain climbing. They had planned their trip from Mumbai to Kullu and they started May 15 from here. They had an accident in Banjar.”
Talking about the accident, he said: “It was a narrow road and there were many heavy vehicles going in the opposite direction. They saw a giant dump truck approaching and stopped, waiting for it to pass. The truck turned, but the rear of the truck hit the car, causing it to plunge into the cliff. Due to the collision, Vaibhavi was thrown out of the car. By the time the locals took Vaibhavi to the hospital, it was too late.”
Ankit said Vaibhavi was wearing a seat belt when the accident happened. “She is always cautious and would never sit in a car without a seat belt. So on a road trip, she will be very cautious. Doctors also confirmed there were seat belt marks around her neck. It’s sad that we thought about planning to marry her, but now she’s gone.”
