Explainer: Who are more at risk of contracting monkeypox?
Monkeypox is a rare viral infection that can be transmitted from animals to humans and from person to person.
In most cases, the symptoms of monkeypox are increasing alarmingly within a few weeks, the World Health Organization (WHO) says.
However, the global health body warns of complications caused by the monkeypox virus, including secondary skin infections, pneumonia, confusion and eye problems. Previously, between 1% and 10% of people who contracted monkeypox died, the WHO said.
