The 2022-23 club season is underway, but it will soon be put on hold, with the latest edition of the World Cup coming up. The tournament is scheduled to take place in Qatar between November and December.
The national teams have already started planning the competition as they want to be named world soccer champions. France, the team that won the tournament championship in Russia in 2018, is the best candidate to maintain their title.
However, Didier Deschamps’ team has a big worry before the trip to Qatar. Juventus midfielder Pogba’s World Cup hopes are in doubt as he is currently sidelined with a meniscus injury.
Pogba, who has made 91 appearances for France, recently underwent surgery to resolve the issue, but could still miss his flight to Qatar. To add Les Bleus’ accident, N’Golo Kante is also recovering from a muscle injury.
While there are still nearly three months left before the event kicks off, Lazarazu worries France could be without Pogba and Kante. However, before Les Bleus the defender has leaned towards Real Madrid Tchouameni to step into their shoes. He told the French television network TF1:
“Pogba, who had the surgery, I don’t know how he will be ready for the World Cup. It seems impossible for me. Kante also did not perform very well. Fortunately, there is Tchouameni as one. in potential starters. very well done.”
It remains to be seen whether Pogba and Kante can regain full fitness before the World Cup begins. Tchouameni is expected to have a place in Deschamps’ squad regardless.
Tchouameni became the starter for Real Madrid before the World Cup
Tchouameni made 50 appearances in all competitions for AS Monaco last season, scoring five goals and assisting three in the process. His performances for the Ligue 1 side have seen him attract interest from a number of clubs, including Liverpool, in the summer.
However, Real Madrid won the race for the 22-year-old’s services. The La Liga champions spent an initial amount of €80 million to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Tchouameni has since become a regular starter for Carlo Ancelotti’s side. He appeared six times for Los Blancos So far this season, provide a support in the process.
Real Madrid’s trust in Tchouameni was underscored when they sold Casemiro to Manchester United during the recent closing.
