MANILA, Philippines — Gilas Pilipinas Youth will remain in Division B of the Fiba AFC U16 Women’s Championship after an 88-73 loss to Samoa in Wednesday night’s semi-final at Prince Hamza Hall in Amman, Jordan.
Gilas gave Samoa beat 29 points in three nights But their rematch is a whole different story.
The young Philippines players took the lead early after a slow start and then shot themselves in the foot with a dismal second half that gave Samoa a chance to expand the game.
Samoa was led by the dazzling form of Kira-May Filemu, who shone with 36 points and 15 rebounds while playing all 40 minutes.
Tutani finished with 11 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists.
Naomi Panganiban led the fight for Gilas with 15 points but only shot 5 of 15 from the field. Ava Fajardo added 14.
Kristan Yumul, who scored 22 points in his first meeting with Samoa, was led to 13 points this time in a 5/20 penalty shootout.
Samoa will face Lebanon or Syria, which the Philippines can also beat in the group stage, in the final.
Only a Class B champion will be promoted to Class A.
