HC nominees are said to not appreciate Cardinals . Kyler Murray
There was another negative report this winter regarding Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray.
Pro Football Network draft analyst Tony Pauline reports from the Senior Bowl that the new Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort has yet to hire a head coach in part due to concerns about Murray.
Pauline noted: “It’s not because the midfielder has a big say in the matter. “Instead, many aspiring candidates don’t want to take the job knowing they will be bound by Murray for the next four seasons.”
the cardinals Bonus Murray last summer with a five-year contract extension said to be worth $230.5 million with $160 million guaranteed. Arizona then won 4-8 in the 2022 season before Murray suffered an injury on December 12 that caused him need ACL surgery also includes some meniscal repair.
Pauline added: “Whoever takes the Cardinals job will have no choice in the near future in midfield.
Last month, an unnamed Cardinals veteran speak NFL insider Michael Silver said it was like the franchise had “created a monster” paying Murray a lot of guaranteed cash. Not long after that story surfaced, Ossenfort appeared to have targeted the 25-year-old signaler and other players when he speak that “ego will not be tolerated in this organization.”
Ossenfort also spoke positively about Murray’s physicality at the time.
Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network (h/t Jeremy Bergman) reported last weekend that Murray could miss at least the next half of the season to recover from the defeat. While one may never know if Sean Payton, DeMeco Ryans and Frank Reich are among the coaching candidates looking to have nothing to do with Murray, all three accepted to contracts elsewhere this season.
Meanwhile, Ossenfort will likely need to find an interim QB1 for Week 1 of the 2023 campaign as Murray tries to return from what could become a career-changing issue.
