Here are 8 notable healthy Indie games for you to follow

The Healthy Game Live Presentation just ended, and after about an hour of introduction, the live stream highlighted one thing for me: There are definitely plenty of sims that raise lotta in the wild. Hey, I don’t mind the abundance of these games. Farming in games can be a cozy escape, but it’s strange to see so many people trying to bite into the success formula of games like Mule and Stardew Valley. That said, the broadcast showcased a number of gripping games, from turn-based rhythm games to visual novels, some of which are coming sooner than you might expect.

In case you didn’t know, Wholesome Direct, now in its second year, is a live stream dedicated to laid-back, cozy indie games often developed by marginalized creators. So what you get are experiences that venture off the beaten path, stories about themes that were often pushed aside during “AAA” development. As a result, these games tend to be overshadowed by the glitz and glamor (and massive marketing campaigns) of big-budget games. That’s where Wholesome Direct came in: To shed light on developers pushing media into often uncharted territory. It’s a great tool!

Anyway, of the nearly 100 healthy games shown in today’s broadcast, here are eight that you should absolutely keep an eye on:

A Frog’s Tale

A joint partnership between the independent studios Norman Company and Mythcarver Games, A Frog’s Tale is a captivating turn-based action RPG where you fight to the heart’s beat of the 80s like no other. Crypt of the NecroDancer. I love the pixel art aesthetic and the lovable characters. It gives me so much Final Fantasy meet rhythm playing energy, and that’s awesome.

A Frog’s Tale is expected to launch on PC sometime in 2023. You can wishlist it on Steam right now and support its Kickstarter campaign.

Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly

This is great to see! Original Coffee Talk is a lovely visual novel whose creator,Mohammad Fahmi, passed away tragically this year. So I believe the spirit of the first game seems to still be alive in this Toge Productions sequel. Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly continues the story of the game OG, with new characters, extras like temperature control, and even more drinks to serve patrons.

Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly launching circa 2023 for the Nintendo Switch, macOS and PCPlayStation console and Xbox system.

Kaichu – Kaiju dating sim

So as I was taking notes with the helpful Live stream running on my second monitor, Squiddershins’ Kaichu pops up and all I can type is “WHAT?” A Kaiju dating simulator, Kaichu – Kaiju dating sim puts you in the role of Gigachu, a romantic guy looking for love. You date six other super monsters, doing things like destroying buildings while rampaging between carnage. It’s sweet and fun, and I want it now.

Kaichu – Kaiju dating sim To be expected to hit PC this summer.

LumbearJack

If the name doesn’t set the stage for it, the game’s description totally works. “Grab your ax and save the environment by shredding and recycling everything man-made in your path.” Yeah, this is pretty much Smokey the Bear: The Game. In the game FinalBoss’ LumbearJack, you Play as Jack, a bear who acts as the ultimate savior of the environment. Armed with your trusty and customizable ax, you’ll go around erasing human creations through puzzle solving in the hope of preserving ecology for all. Hmm, now there seems to be an important topic that we should talk more about.

LumbearJack Now out on Nintendo Switch and computer.

Melatonin

A rhythm platformer developed by Half Asleep, Melatonin is a collection of mini games about piecing together different dreams. Each chapter has a different type of challenge, asking you to shoot UFOs to the beat, jump between platforms to the rhythm, and eat donuts on a chair in the sky. Yes, that is a strange thing. But hey, weird is cool. And Melatonin is both.

Melatonin Coming soon to Nintendo Switch and computer on September 16.

Animal role-playing paper

Cuddling Raccoon Studios’ Animal role-playing paper obviously taking some inspiration from Nintendo’s Paper Mario franchise, while also being something of its own. A cute roguelike set in a colorful boardgame-sized world, you help a little chicken named Peep and his friends find the king by strategically defeating enemies. , all while meeting adorable animals and leveling up by campfire.

Animal role-playing paper no release date yet, but you can wishlist it on Steam. One Kickstarter campaign launching this summerand if funded, it will hit the Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation and Xbox systems.

Olliefrog Toad Skater

Screenshot of Olliefrog Toad Skater showing an amphibious skateboard pulling out what appears to be a Method fork in a large bowl.

No my list would be complete without a skateboarding game. Mr. Thee’s Olliefrog Toad Skater is a blend of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater and game “skateboard” Breaking waves in the best possible way. You play as a customizable frog in a game called “a faithful reinterpretation of the gameplay emotions of the late 90s and early 2000s skateboarding games”. So in other words, the Indy 900s defy gravity. But is an amphibian. Yeah, that’s pathetic!

Olliefrog Toad Skater “hopefully” will arrive in late 2023, according to its Steam page. You can wishlist it on PC now and support its Kickstarter campaign. Oh, and yes a demo for Olliefrog Toad Skater be available now above itch.io.

Soulitaire

A relaxing story game about one of the most boring card games imaginable, The Card Game ‘ Soulitaire Plays more like a Tarot reading than a Solitaire game. Using ambiguous soul cards, you interpret the meanings of the symbols on the cards to predict the future of your customers and friends. It has some beautifully illustrated artwork in full rich color, a warm, resonant guitar track, and some intriguing hidden mysteries. I joined.

Soulitaire no release date, but you can wishlist it on Steam now.

Edema. That’s quite a bit. And again, those are just the eight games that appeal to me the most. There’s a lot more on display in the additional Live stream, so be sure to hit my comments section with some cozy and comfortable experiences that stand out for you. Oh, and be sure to reach WholesomeGames.com to learn more about the options above and more.
