Hillary Clinton Recalls Queen’s ‘Continuous Resilience’ at TIFF

Hillary Rodham Clinton remembers the Queen as a model of resilience at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The former US secretary of state took to the stage at the TIFF industry conference on Saturday alongside his daughter Chelsea Clinton and Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, the prime minister’s wife.

Trudeau asked the Clintons what they would discuss with the Queen during a mock interview for their streaming documentary series, “Gutsy.”

Mrs. Clinton said she would ask the British monarch about the origins of her commitment to tireless public service during her 70-year reign.

“I would tell her, where do you find the constant resilience, the courage, the audacity to do your duty every day, not to miss a single day,” she said, noting that the 96-year-old grandmother performed her ceremonial role appointing the British prime minister two days before her death.

Mrs. Clinton recalled that the Queen was more inclined to question people than to talk about herself.

“She rarely expresses her own opinions. That’s not part of the queen’s duties,” she said. “But she’s very quick to ask about what you’re thinking.”

But Clinton wondered if the Queen might have given the secrets to her longevity as a woman in the spotlight.

“Perhaps she would be willing to share some of the ways she has helped herself continue to grow,” Clinton continued. “The three of us know that when you’re in the public eye it’s exhausting and we need all the help we can get.”

“Gutsy,” which is streaming on Apple TV Plus, shows the Clintons talking to some of their heroes, including Gloria Steinem, Wanda Sykes, and Jane Goodall.
