Homemade French Fries (Grilled or Fryed)
Table of contents[Hide][Show]
We don’t eat a ton of french fries in the house (unless it French fries.) But sometimes taco nights call for some homemade tortillas. Here’s how you can easily make your own healthy, natural gluten-free tortilla.
Fried and Grilled Tortilla Chips
I have included instructions on how to make delicious homemade french fries in 3 different ways. You can use the oven for the baked version, fry them on the stovetop, or use an air fryer. Of course, the air-baked and fried versions won’t have much fat in them, but I don’t worry about that too much as long as the fats are healthy.
A lot of recipes use vegetable oils like canola oil, but here we’re using tallow or coconut oil. They don’t contain as many inflammatory Omega-6s as canola, corn, or soybean oils. And while I love the olive oil in wash salad, I don’t like to cook with it. Because olive oil is high in monounsaturated fats, it is more susceptible to oxidation at high temperatures.
Gluten Free Tortilla Chips
Most tortillas are made with corn instead of flour, so they’re naturally gluten-free. Our family avoids a many seeds, but sometimes I like a good chip. It’s no secret that I love Mexican food, and the tortilla chips come with the territory.
Since I’m in remission of my autoimmune disease, my body can’t handle certain grains from time to time.
Easy recipes to serve with homemade fries
Even so, the fries are only as good as what you serve them. They are great as an appetizer, snack or side dish. I usually use tapioca chips in BBQ Chicken Nachos, but homemade fries will also work. Here are a few serving and dipping ideas.
Homemade Tortilla Chips Recipe
Make delicious crispy corn tortillas at home with organic tortillas and sea salt. Bake, air fry or deep fry.
Element
- 24 corn cake
- teaspoon Salt
Cooking oil, (I prefer tallow or coconut oil)
- 2 TBSP coconut oil (for frying or baking in the air)
- 2 glass animal fat (or coconut oil, for deep frying)
Guide
Crispy Fried Instructions
-
Line the bowl with a paper towel.
-
For deep frying, place 1-2 cups of tallow or cooking oil in a large skillet.
-
Heat over medium to high heat until the temperature reaches about 350°F. You don’t need to use a thermometer. You can test the temperature by dropping a piece of tortilla into the oil. If it immediately begins to bubble and rise, the oil is hot enough.
-
Drop the tortillas one at a time in the hot oil until cooked in a single layer.
-
Cook for 2-3 minutes until the cake starts to turn golden brown around the edges and the bubbling slows down.
-
Use tongs to flip them over and cook for 1 more minute.
-
Use a slotted spoon to scoop out the fried tortillas into the prepared bowl and sprinkle with salt.
-
Repeat frying and flipping until all the cake is gone.
-
Serve and enjoy.
Air Frying and Baking Instructions
-
Preheat oven or air fryer to 350°F.
-
Spread tortilla chips in a single layer on a baking tray or in the fryer basket (in batches as needed).
-
Brush with coconut oil or spritz with coconut oil spray and sprinkle with salt.
-
Bake/fry in the air until golden and crispy. About 5-7 minutes for the air fryer and 10-15 minutes for the oven.
-
Serve and enjoy.
