How to redo your bathroom (without renovating)
How to redo your bathroom
(without renovation)
NYC’s top designer Ariel Okin says if you’re not starting from scratch, as Gwyneth did recently with her home spa, there’s really still a lot you can do to refresh. most shower areas. Okin, who has her own furniture, wallpaper and accessory lines, as well as a stunning e-commerce site, Fenimore Lane, also runs her own interior design agency with clients. restaurants like Lena Dunham and goop (she turned an empty loft in Union Square into ours before COVID East Coast HQ), among countless other projects. Here are Okin’s great decorating tips to transform your space — no contractor needed.
STRONG WITH ACCESSORIES
Trees and oversized artwork have the ability to draw attention away from “anything less prominent, like translucent bricks,” says Okin. “A large mirror would be great if you don’t have a window.”

LIGHT IS EVERYTHING
“Changing out lighting fixtures is an easy fix that you can do without renovating — any skilled electrician can remove the old one and put in the new one. It can do wonders to freshen up a space without having to do anything else,” says Okin. “Natural light is your best friend in the bathroom,” she says, but whether you have large windows or no windows, avoid harsh overhead light and opt for wall lights instead. and floor or table lamps. “Any light emitted from a filtered shade is more diffuse and diffuse than canned light on the ceiling,” Okin said. “And it really helps when applying makeup or checking your skin.”

Okin recommends the experts at Neat Method, who have a simple system anyone can use: Empty all drawers and cabinets, evaluate what you have, and create categories ( hair, makeup, etc.). Measure the dimensions of your drawers and cabinet space and purchase caddies and bins respectively. “Put the products in the basket and walk away — you can easily find and put everything away to keep the bathroom neat and organized,” she says.

She keeps an oak storage bin for books, candles, and a glass of wine. “Natural materials like wood add texture and warmth,” says Okin. And a silver julep cup holds her daily essentials, including her favorite Westman Atelier Vital Skin Foundation Stick.
