IFD rescues 3 people trapped in abandoned building – WISH-TV | Indianapolis News | Indiana weather
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Three people were rescued after becoming trapped in the basement of an old building Sunday, according to the Indianapolis Fire Department.
At 2:31 p.m., the IFD was dispatched to 22nd Street and North Meridian, where they found two 18-year-old males and a 15-year-old female trapped inside an old abandoned building.
Two men told firefighters they were going out and exploring old buildings. Within minutes of entering the stairs, the stairs to the basement began to collapse, sending a man and woman down about 10 feet, according to the IFD. The other man wasn’t on the steps when it collapsed.
When the IFD arrived on the scene, they deployed an above ground ladder to reach the basement and were able to bring two people up to safety.
One male may have an ankle injury while the other two are uninjured.
