KOLKATA: A fortnight after the Bengal Task Force arrested two alleged al-Qaida members in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) in the Kharibari area of ​​Sashan, the state’s counterterrorism unit, coordinated closely with the Mumbai police ATS, arrested one more person from the southern suburbs of the city, while the Mumbai team arrested another. The two men, STF officers said, were in regular contact with AQIS-backed banned jihadist terrorist outfits and carried out extreme covert operations. The Sleuths are also looking into their role in relation to Bangladesh’s banned Ansarullah Bangla Team. An official said: “Both defendants have been transferred to their respective courts and until Shaikh is brought to Kolkata on his way in transit from Mumbai, police will continue to raid other points in South 24. Parganas”.
“AQIS now has several factions and they have been threatening attacks in many cities in India over the past few months,” an investigating officer stated.
