The 2015 film follows the personified emotions of a young girl named Riley. Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Fear (Bill Hader), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Anger (Lewis Black) are in Riley’s mind and responsible for her emotions, as They help her navigate the complexities of growing up and moving to a whole new city. Tensions rise as Joy and Sadness clash and accidentally lose some of Riley’s core memories, and they must embark on a quest deeper in her mind to get them back. The film is directed by Pete Docter, who is currently the creative director of Pixar. It was praised for dealing with emotions and memories in a multifaceted way.
That year, Contradictory won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, and was also nominated for Best Original Screenplay.
The sequel will begin when Riley is a teenager, likely to have to deal with all the complicated emotional turmoil that comes with adolescence. The film will also introduce some new emotions, in addition to the five that we saw in the first movie. This time, Kelsey Mann, the story supervisor on Monsters Universitywill direct the movie with the script from Contradictory Screenwriter Meg LeFauve. Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling are reportedly not returning as Fear and Disgust.
Inside Out 2 will be released in the summer of 2024.
