Kansas City man charged with federal crime in shooting death of firefighter on duty

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A 23-year-old man whose gun was used to fatally shoot a firefighter on duty has been charged before federal court.

A statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office found Ja’Von L. Taylor charged with a felony possession of a firearm.

The report said surveillance video showed Taylor and a victim, later identified as Kansas City Fire Department firefighter Anthony Santi, arguing over the gun Taylor was holding outside a Road Star gas station. at the corner of US 40 Highway and Sterling Avenue.

Federal prosecutors said the gun had an extended magazine.

A woman who was traveling with Taylor took up a gun and fired a shot, apparently hitting Santi in the back. He died from his wound.

A probable cause document says Taylor is a convicted felon in Missouri for first-degree robbery.

The Independent Police have released two suspects who have been arrested but have yet to be identified, as of 12pm on Friday.
