Karnataka hijab ban: Supreme Court reserves verdict on pleas challenging High court judgement | India News

NEW DELHI: Supreme Court on Thursday reserved its ruling on a series of defiant petitions Karnataka High Court the judgment refused to lift the ban on headscarves in state educational institutions.
On March 15, the high court dismissed a lawsuit filed by a section of Muslim students from Government College Preparatory Girls’ College in Udupi asked permission to wear a headscarf in class, saying it was not part of an essential religious practice in the Muslim faith.
By order of February 5, 2022, the state government has banned the wearing of clothing that disrupts equality, integrity, and public order in schools and colleges.
Several pleas were filed with the apex court challenging the high court’s ruling.
A Judge’s Bench Hemant Gupta and Sudhanshu Dhulia reserves its judgment in this matter.
