Kaser Focus: Queen and country

Rest in peace, Queen Elizabeth II of England. 96 years old is a heckuva run. Just to provide some context, Magnavox Odyssey debuted when she was 46 years old. She has been queen for 20 years. The entire industry that supported both my professional and personal life was still in the pre-teens when Queen Elizabeth became a grandmother. That timeline just. . . mind boggles.

I’m not actually in the office today, but I feel that a bit of the trivia above is worth taking on with Kaser Focus. Since I’m here, I’ll tell you everything I did on my day off. I played Saints Row a bit more, and honestly, I didn’t like it. The main supporting cast, if not Boss, then complainer. I failed them because it felt like all they did in the first place was complain. And the potential to satirize the modern millennial/zoomer experience is lost because the writing is not authentic. It feels – and this may not sound too harsh, but it’s the death knell for a Saints Row game – a bit basic.

On the news front, PlayStation and Xbox seem to be vying for Call of Duty in public. After Phil Spencer said last week that Microsoft tried to keep the series available to PlayStation gamers, now Jim Ryan is firing back. He says that Microsoft’s real offer is “not enough on many levels”And cast some shade with,“ I felt the need to set the record right away because Phil Spencer took this to the public forum. I’m curious to see how this is resolved, if only to hear a little more back and forth between the two.

For those of you who don’t know this, I’m a huge fan (if a big fan) of Assassin’s Creed, so I’ll be attending Ubisoft’s show tomorrow. I will be very curious to see how they perform on Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the next title in the series. Maybe I’ll get into Splatoon 3 for a bit, and maybe even that new Disney Dreamlight Valley game, if I have time.
