It’s been a week. It was only the third that we wrote about Rumbleversea battle royale game that stopped working less than six months after launch. Now, on Thursday, we have another one, only this time City knockout.
Game Director Jeremy Russo shared the news in a blog post published earlier todaysays the game’s servers will be down on June 6 and then City knockout “will not be able to play anymore”. Or, at least it won’t be in its current form (emphasis mine).
Today we announce that Season 9 will be Knockout City’s final season. Then, on the morning of June 6, 2023, more than two years after our initial launch, all servers worldwide will be down and the game will no longer be playable.. This was an extremely difficult decision for us, but a necessary and important decision for our studio. Before that happens, there are plenty of new updates in store. We’ve got a Season 9 filled with the amazing new content you’ve come to expect, an epic farewell both in and out of the game, and even a private server version on PC so Knockout City can last forever.
While an online game shutting down is always a shame for the community still playing it at the time, it’s also a fact of the business. even for a game that came out with five million players. When that moment inevitably comes, it’s a cruel and disappointing turn as the game usually disappears for good, leaving nothing but screenshots and memories, and no way for future generations to come. future system knows all about it.
So the news that City knockout there will be a “private server” version on PC which is great, for both fans of the game as well as anyone interested in preserving the game (which you all should). Russo said that this would be “a standalone player-hosted version of the game”, which will be released shortly after the current version’s shutdown in June.
