“I was impressed with Hardik Pandya. Didn’t know much about him earlier, I have seen him now that he is a cricketer who just instinctively plays and keeps the game going. He’s into a lot of cricket conversations and wants to learn, wants to get better and improves and understands his players,” Kirsten told TOI as the Pandya-led Titans marked all of the games. umbrella to appear in 2022 IPL Champions.
“He’s a great cricketer but what sets him apart is how eager he is to learn. He’s one of those players. And we’ve seen leadership come with it. how natural he is,” added Kirsten.
Pandya became the second-highest scorer for the Titans with 487 runs from 15 innings and their third-highest scorer by winning eight strokes. “He’s an impact player who can win games for you and there’s someone who can do it with bat and ball, especially in such a short and unpredictable format as the game. This match, it’s special,” Kirsten said.
In his first season as captain, after recovering from a back injury and putting behind the specter of a very forgettable outing at the recent T20 World Cup, Pandya raised the stakes for himself and the bar for the rest of the team by taking responsibility and control. “That’s a great quality of him. He’s attractive and wants to understand the players as best he can to get the best out of them,” Kirsten said.
At the start of the season, considering this is the Titans’ first year in the IPL, forming a brand new team is like painting an untouched picture. From selecting a team at auction to retaining their picks in the draft, appointing coaches and support staff – it all happened in less than a few months.
“As a new franchise, our focus is on trying to understand the mix, building a team, making sure that we do what we can to keep improving every game and that’s how. We went. We started the tournament successfully and that was great because it took some of the pressure off early on,” said Kirsten.
“We’re all very happy to be able to get a side like this at the auction and then the commissioning. Ashish Nehra and Vikram Solanki Play a key role in bringing the team together and I’m always available to add value wherever I can. We were in a good space and had enough time off between games that allowed us the opportunity to continue to connect with each other as a team – consider it a whole new franchise. ”

Kirsten’s role is different this time around – more related to mentoring than coaching.
“My job is to work with young tennis players and help them become the best version of themselves and also just to oversee the team and how we are supposed to go forward as a team. I enjoy working with others, I don’t like working in isolation and I think the leadership team, Vikram and Ashish are simple and like-minded people. We were in it together,” he said.
Kirsten believes that the IPL has become a great breeding ground. “I think that’s just beneficial and it creates competition, a worthy financial regime where you get the best people,” he said.
