Man arrested for climbing over baggage carousel at Cleveland Hopkins Airport (video)


CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Footage newly released to 19 News shows a man arrested in July after climbing over a baggage carousel at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.

The incident happened around 4:45 p.m. on July 3, according to an incident report from the Cleveland Police Department.

Security camera footage released by the Cleveland Police Department captured the man, identified as 29-year-old Nicholas Garrett, climbing over the carousel.

A witness saw Garrett enter the restricted area and immediately called police, the report said.

Garrett told officers during questioning that he noticed his luggage zipper was open and a pair of shoes estimated to be worth $1,000 was missing, the report said.

He also told officers that he noticed an employee coming through the carousel door after the carousel stopped, which is when he jumped over the carousel.

“What you did was a big, big thing,” said one of the officers.

“I’m not trying to break the law,” Garrett replied.

The report said police later arrested Garrett. Officers also discovered Garrett was carrying a small amount of marijuana.

Garrett was charged with criminal trespass, a 4th degree misdemeanor, according to court documents. Court documents said he did not apply for election on July 12 and was fined $198.
