NEW DELHI: Indian citizens and students in Canada was asked to “exercise caution and vigilance” in light of the “strong rise in incidents of hate crime, sectarian violence and anti-Indian activities”, read an advisory issued by Foreign Office (MEA) on Friday.


The advice comes a day after India raised concerns with Canada that its territory was being used by politically motivated “extremists”. Reacting to the recently held Khalistan referendum, conducted by separatist groups, MEA spokesman Arindam Bagchi call it a “distant exercise”.
‘Criminals are not brought to justice’
The announcement Friday said there has been a significant increase in hate crimes, sectarian violence and anti-Indian activities in Canada.
“The MEA and our High Commissioner/Consulate General in Canada have dealt with these cases with Canadian authorities and have asked them to investigate the aforementioned crimes and take appropriate action. these crimes have not been brought to justice to date in Canada,” it added.
“Due to increased crime rates as described above, Indian citizens and students from India in Canada and those coming to Canada for tourism/education are advised to exercise caution and remain vigilant,” it said. speak.
Khalistan ‘referendum’
