Mismatch in policeman’s version cast doubt in 2014 Morani case: Court | India News

MUMBAI: Special MCOCA courtwhile acquittal of 12 defendants in the 2014 shooting at the Juhu bungalow of producers Karim and Ali Moraniobserved that it appeared that one of the policemen investigating the case had concocted a story involving certain aspects, and the discrepancies that appeared in his evidence cast a shadow of suspect about the course of events. While 12 defendants, including the alleged Obaid Radiowala gang, were acquitted on Thursday, sentences were delivered on Friday.
The officer told the court that a day after the incident, he was at the scene and recorded the testimony of one security guard in the presence of the other two. Morani brothers, Ali said they were out of town that day. The police also gave two answers about when and where to record the guard’s testimony.
Prosecutors allege that gangster Ravi Pujari wanted Obaid to win the rights to perform overseas promotions related to the movie ‘Happy New Year’ and made threatening calls to Moranis.
The court said the prosecution had not presented any concrete evidence that the 12 acquitted defendants were in contact with the wanted defendants, including Pujari who is now extradited, and according to the case of them, they committed the alleged crimes.
The court said that while Ali said no one of his family was present at his residence at the time of the shooting, the guard insisted they were inside the home. “According to Ali, the bullet lodged in the window while the guard’s evidence shows that except for the car and the tree, the bullet didn’t hit any other object… he was far from the truth and he as a testified witness.”
