Mom’s Birthday & a SC Weekend
Hello and Happy Monday; I hope your coffee is strong this morning! It’s been a great couple of days and I’m still trying to get into the right mindset for Monday. Maybe it would have been easier if I had a language arts curriculum that I love for Kaitlyn, but I’ll just keep juggling between my First Language Lessons and All About Reading until I have the time and courage to learn the IEW Fairy Tale unit. We never seem to get into TGATB. I can’t believe it’s almost April!
But my scattered brain is a post for another day. Today I want to share with you all that we have accomplished in the past few days. It all started after the Wednesday co-op when Mom arrived. I love when my mother comes to visit; At this stage of our lives, we have transcended the mother-child relationship to become the closest of friendships. I am grateful for our closeness and pray the same will be with my children as they grow up.
Thursday is her birthday and we’ve planned a full girls day out! We’re both notoriously bad shoppers; we get tired easily, find something that fits and buy it in every color, and are generally happier shopping the Whole Foods aisle than Nordstrom. But on Thursday, we were determined to revamp our wardrobe!
We took off after breakfast to Southpark Mall. We started things off at Nordstrom and the birthday angels must have been watching over us because we immediately started having luck finding what we needed and the trend continued throughout the day. We just took a short break for lunch at the nearby RH Rooftop, a beautiful spot filled with natural light to celebrate the girl’s birthday with coffee and a small plate of food, as we both enjoyed. nibble on various things when given. opportunity.
I finally got my mom out of the mall at 5 o’clock, something I’ve never had to say in my life. We both reveled in our success and came home to a very jealous Kaitlyn, the only one who really enjoyed shopping in the family. The girls baked Nana a cookie, I made the salmon, and we baked the girl’s birthday cake and we all played around. Walking in national parks. It was a wonderful day.
Friday is the lower key. We filled it with Synthesis for Hailey, grocery shopping, doing Madeline Moves that mom joined us, watching Hailey play soccer (she scored!) and dining at Langtree, where we I devoured some Vietnamese food at Hello Me.
Kaitlyn’s Saturday morning soccer game was cancelled, so after breakfast we headed south to spend the day at Traveler’s Rest, SC, a little over 2 hours from home. We stopped on the way to see more of the fifth wheel. We’re really excited about the possibility of getting one and the family adventures we can have with it. Currently, the leader is Grand Design Reflection with a house with a middle floor.
We stopped for lunch at what is becoming one of our favorites, Chicora Alley in TR. They have a patio and are very dog friendly. Plus, the food is amazing! We ordered salsa and fried okra for the table and swarmed the table like a swarm of locusts. I had the brisket tacos and the Cali fish tacos which were great. We all left with full and happy bellies.
We spent the afternoon at a nearby cottage, visiting their flock of chickens, strolling along the river, and enjoying the most sunny day. Mom came home late in the afternoon, Mema and Grandpa came to have dinner with us. We ate at The Whistle Stop in TR before hugging and heading home.
David works on Sundays so I take the kids to church and then come home to do the laundry as usual, clean the house, do administrative tasks, go through the kids’ closets, and do other chores. other errands of the day. When David got home, we had dinner for a day and then I went to the kitchen with Kaitlyn.
She decided last week that she wanted to plan, shop, and make a dinner herself. I won’t lie, it took a lot of mental energy to get in and be the sous chef for the evening, but she was so excited to be in charge. We videoed the step-by-step process so she could share the dinner on IG “just like mom does”. I think it’s so sweet that she loves to go into the kitchen and have her Gus Gus’ Mac ‘n Cheeseburgers. cooking princess turned out great.
Now, back to Monday! Some of the things I hope to accomplish this week include going to the garden center to plant soil and cucumbers, updating emails, and teaching Hailey to make family albums, a task she’s excited to take on and I’m excited about too. excited to perform. . I hope your week is off to a good start; Thanks so much for stopping by today! <3
