Movie mints Rs 150 crore worldwide

Tamil historical epic, ‘Ponnyin Selvan’ directed by Mani Ratnam premiered in theaters on September 30. Adapted from the novel, the film stars Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead roles. The film was critically acclaimed and received generally positive reviews from fans and film critics. The film has been released globally in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam and the all-India film is receiving warm views.

The film on its second day of release has grossed Rs 70 crore at the box office. The film’s producers on October 1, made an official announcement that the film achieved Rs 80 at the box office upon opening. Now, in two days, the film is reported to have collected Rs 150 crore worldwide. The film is expected to be very popular when the audience’s reaction to the film is increasing. ‘Ponnyin Selvan’ is one of the Tamil films with a big opening this year.

The film also features Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Nasser, Prakash Raj, Rahman, Vikram Prabhu, Aishwaarya Lekshmi, Jayaram and Prabhu in key roles. Music for the movie was composed by AR Rahman. The story of the film revolves around the Chola Dynasty and how King Arunmozhi Varman became Raja Raja Chozhan. The film is being made into two parts and director Mani Ratnam has announced confirmation that the second part of the film will be released in 9 months.
