Multiple University of Idaho students found dead near campus in what authorities believe was a murder
Four young college students were found dead Sunday in Idaho.
The Moscow Police Department was sent to a residence on King Street near University of Idaho campus Sunday just before noon after receiving a call regarding an unconscious person. When they entered the facility, it was a house that had been converted into an apartment, according to the Chief of Police Tyson Berrett through the Idaho 6 Newsthey discovered the bodies of 4 students: 20 years old Ethan Chapin from Conway, Washington, 20 years old Xana from Avondale, Arizona, 21 years old Madison Mogen from Coeur d’Alene, and 21 years old Kaylee GonBee by Rathdrum.

Investigators immediately began treating the situation as a homicide, with the University of Idaho officially Twitter The account warns students to avoid the area:
“The Moscow police chief is investigating a murder on King Rd. near campus. The suspect is not known at this time. Stay away from the area and shelter in place.”

The police department later expressed their condolences in a press release:
“The Moscow Police Department extends its sincerest condolences to family members, friends and the Moscow Community.”
They added:
“Please respect the privacy of the victim’s family, friends and loved ones as the Moscow Police Department investigates this tragic event.”
The university later lifted the shelter in order, explaining:
“Moscow police continue to investigate the deaths of four people near the campus. They indicate that there is no ongoing threat. More details will be provided via email soon.”

It’s a terrible situation. We can’t imagine what these families have to go through. As a small gesture of recognition, the university informed students on Sunday night:
“Out of respect for these Vandals, classes across the state and online will be canceled on Monday, November 14. All schools remain open.”

They added in their mass email:
“An event of this magnitude can have significant impacts on those left behind. As Destroyers, we must come together and uplift each other. If you are concerned about a student or staff member and do not know what to do, please report VandalCare. Details will be released as they become available. If you have any information about this crime, call the Moscow police at 208-882-2677. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of our students as the Vandal Family mourn their loss.”
